May 08 2013. The day every Manchester United supporter dreaded had arrived. Sir Alex Ferguson had announced his retirement: "The decision to retire is one that I have thought a great deal about and one that I have not taken lightly. It is the right time. "

United fans were left in shock. The only constant in football would change. Fergie time was finally up!

Tributes flooded in as the greatest football manager bowed out a champion. He arrived at Manchester United vowing to knock Liverpool off their perch and that he did. His determination and desire to win was infectious. The teams he assembled and the fans that watched would always believe. His legacy now remains embedded in the halls of Old Trafford for next generations to admire. "The memories are all there in 26 years at United. The whole thing. The day I came here was a privilege. The day I leave, I feel honoured."

We are all grateful and proud of all the years we experienced with him at the helm – the triumphs as well as defeats. It’s been a terrific journey.
